Olympic superfans of Beijing have just been offered a golden opportunity. Applications are now open for international volunteers to serve in the 2022 Beijing games. To apply, prospective candidates can create an account, and register, via the Beijing 2022 Volunteer Application Portal (available in Chinese and English).

Altogether, the games are seeking 27,000 volunteers to help ensure everything goes as smooth as a freshly groomed ski slope. Volunteers will serve at competition venues, training venues, and non-competition venues in Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou for both the Olympic and Paralympic games, fulfilling essential roles such as media liaisons and event organizers.

For their efforts, volunteers who have what it takes to be accepted into the ranks will be rewarded with one heck of a new line on their resume. In preparation, they will receive online and offline training that includes simulation exercises, and of course, nothing can beat the experience of working at the real-deal games.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old as of Jan 1, 2022, be able to speak either English or Chinese, and have basic knowledge of the skills required for the volunteer position. If you are not yet sure whether volunteering is right for you, you still have plenty of time to decide as applications are open until Jun 30, 2021.

As applications opened, so too was the volunteer logo: the orange logo depicts a ribbon in the shape of the sign language symbol for “I love you.” It is also intended to resemble a smiling face that will reflect the smiling faces of the volunteers.

Prior to the announcement, a number of volunteers from the 2008 games gathered near the National Stadium (AKA the Bird’s Nest) to share their memories from that last Beijing Olympics as they prepared to pass the torch to the next generation.

Will you be among them?
